Stuart Turnbull – Managing Director
Stuart has over 16 years of varied experience within the security industry. During this time he has travelled the world leading security teams in hostile environments, had direct protection details for high net worth clients, sports personalities and international musicians, as well as corporate clients, politicians and CEOs.
Stuart has also managed the security of events such as the London Marathon (finish line), London Bupa 10k, Epsom Derby (the hill), Dukes Polo and Prudential Ride London, as well as supervising over 150 SIA & Stewards during multi-day events. In the run up to these events Stuart was heavily involved with Safety Awareness Group (SAG) meetings, staff scheduling, risk assessments, designing new security & stewarding plans and liaising with relevant local & government agencies.
This has enabled Stuart to build an extensive operational network and become very capable of drawing up informed quotations for a variety of events.
Mike Phillips – Finance & Compliance Director
Mike has a wealth of experience in the security industry, having started doing door security back in 1987. He has seen many changes to the industry during this time, such as the introduction of the SIA which has shaped the operational environment that we work in today.
An engineer by trade, Mike worked through the ranks to take on managerial roles at three engineering companies specialising in steel metal works & mechanical engineering, before moving to the security industry full-time. Mike’s experience as a Quality Manager and his knowledge of developing quality systems and new auditing processes, has lead him to take charge of ensuring robust quality procedures within Aventail Security that enabled us to gain ISO 9001 and ACS Accreditation’s.
Andy Pennie – Operations & Training Director
Andy has over 18 years experience in the security industry, starting his career in 1997 ‘working the doors’, to managing and deploying teams of licensed door staff across the country.
In 2007 Andy became a certificated bailiff and enforcement officer, working on behalf of Trafford Magistrates in the northwest. The following year he moved in to the parking enforcement industry, where he became a founding member of the Security Industry Authority Vehicle Immobiliser Forum. Whilst still taking on many operational roles, Andy’s knowledge of the industry made him a demanded consultant, setting up and representing some of the biggest parking enforcement providers in the UK.
Andy qualified as a trainer and started teaching the Vehicle Immobiliser (VI) course accredited by Edexcel and the City & Guilds Door Supervisor course in September 2008. This made him one of the very few licensed VI trainers that continued to be active until the law changed under the Protection of Freedoms Act on the 1st October 2012.
Throughout his career, Andy has taken on a range of tasks from high value asset repossession of items such as fishing boats, sports cars and luxury yachts, to security consultancy, SIA licensing appeals and ISO9001 projects. Andy has an immense ‘all round sector knowledge’, which, combined with his can do attitude and his determination to perform to the highest level, makes him a valued member of the team.
Lauren Hosking – Health and Safety Advisor
Lauren qualified with the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety in 2015 and supports Aventail on a part-time consultancy basis. Lauren’s passion for improving Health and Safety in the workplace has come from both her professional and personal experiences.
Lauren has had a number of roles in the in the water industry over the past 5 years which has given her great exposure to the risks of working in an operational environment. Her upbringing as a farmer’s daughter in West Cornwall has also given her first hand experience in the importance of risk management, near misses, hazard reporting and promoting a positive health and safety culture.
